Job description: Product Owner

Taskstream is a leading assessment management system used by colleges and universities to improve the quality and effectiveness their educational programs. Taskstream strives to delight our users by providing the platform and services for higher education institutions to effectively and efficiently create new and use existing data to continuously improve and adapt their ability to fulfill their educational mission.

As Product Owner, you will be passionate about building effective and innovative software. You will be able to transform big-picture vision into product backlogs and represent market needs as well as the voice of our users and customers throughout the development process. Strong analytic and communication skills are a must with the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts, features and benefits to customers, partners, prospects and your SCRUM team.

This position reports to the CTO and is based in our New York City office.

Responsibilities:
• Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with customers to understand, document and prioritize detailed user needs to inform solution development activities
• Synthesize multiple streams of market and customer information to understand and communicate requirements and priorities to both management and teams
• Clearly articulate customer and user needs to Agile SCRUM teams through user stories and a well-groomed product backlog
• Daily collaboration with developers, scrum masters, user experience designers and QA analysts to support definition, design, development and testing of new product functionality
• Conduct compelling product and feature demonstrations to a variety of internal and external audiences that convey product and subject matter expertise
• Transform high-level strategic initiatives and concepts into actionable projects for SCRUM teams to execute against
• Create and evolve internal processes to improve organizational efficiencies
• Collaborate with other Product Owners to ensure consistent cross-team implementation of Agile best-practices

Required Skills
• 5+ years applicable experience in product management/product ownership
• Passion for and/or experience with improving education
• Excellent written communication and presentation skills
• Solid grounding in software technologies with proven ability to work closely with development teams
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and the ability to foster/maintain relationships internally and externally
• Superb project management and organizational skills with ability to gather business and functional requirements
• Strong quantitative analytical skills and sharp business acumen
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s or higher degree in relevant field

Desired Skills:
• Agile SCRUM experience
• Higher Education experience, especially administrative and accreditation processes that support educational quality assurance (e.g. analytics, business intelligence, outcomes assessment, accreditation, strategic planning, etc).
• Knowledge of enterprise software and interoperability frameworks that are used in higher education (SIS, LMS, etc) including relevant APIs and standards (TinCan, LTI, etc). Experience developing or integrating these systems a strong plus.
• Additional technical skills (for instance SQL familiarity).
